The retreat will follow the recollective-awareness approach pioneered by Jason Siff. This is an allowing approach to meditative experience based on the Buddha’s teaching, and in particular on gentleness and interest in the whole of our meditative experience. Retreatants can at all times choose between applying a technique they already know and find useful, and unstructured awareness meditation. The retreat will follow the familiar pattern of modern silent insight retreats, but with time allowed for journaling each sit, individual interviews if desired, and daily group interviews.
Winton Higgins has been teaching insight meditation retreats for 15 years, and is a regular teacher at the Bluegum, Beaches, and Golden Wattle sanghas – all members of Sydney Insight Meditators (SIM). He has co-taught SIM retreats with Jason Siff, and attended five of Jason’s teacher-training retreats in Australia. Winton is a Sydney academic and writer.
Lizzie Turnbull has been practising in various Buddhist traditions since 1985: Vajrayana, Zen and insight meditation. She recently attended Jason Siff’s teacher training retreat. She is a psychotherapist in private practice in Bondi and teaches on the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists (AABCAP) professional training programme in Buddhism and Psychotherapy.
